Why I started writing.
Up until fairly recently, I never considered writing. It isn’t something I grew up dreaming of doing. Occasionally, I would have an idea and think, “That would make a good story,” but that’s as far as it would go. I never would have considered actually writing it myself.
Then, early in 2026, I had an idea—an idea I just couldn’t stop thinking about. It started with a simple question:
What would happen if humanity solved the problem of scarcity?
From there, other questions followed. Would that actually be a good thing? What would be the possible downsides? Would it be the beginning of the world’s first true utopia?
One night, I sat down and, in just two single-spaced pages, loosely described the world I had in my mind. From those two pages came the idea for my novel, which I am currently drafting.
That isn’t the only thing that came from the experience, though. Suddenly, I had more questions about different worlds, different scenarios, and different ideas—all of which could become compelling stories.
I am writing this novel for two reasons. First, because I want it to exist. I want a copy of a book I created from nothing sitting on my bookshelf. Second, I want to share it with other people. I believe this story is worth telling, and I know there are readers who will enjoy it too.
I have plenty of ideas, but first things first: I need to finish this novel so I can begin the next one.
